Lonely Hearts Scam and Tether Crypto
I received this photo by text yesterday, a stunning brunette young woman. I cropped it, added the text, and added the heart using Pinta, a Linux Graphics App.
It looks like a classic “Lonely Hearts” scam targeting lonely old men, but to make sure I responded back to the “woman” asking if she could send me some money, because I am recently homeless, was in the hospital for a few months, now living in a shelter, and have no money, not even a dime!
“She” never responded to my requests, I also asked her if she had a car could she give me rides, and she never responded to me on that either.
“Lonely Hearts” scams are very common on the internet now, they originate with large call centers in places like Thailand and Cambodia, run by the Chinese Triad mafias, often the women are not even women, but a man using a stock image of an attractive young woman, and impersonating a woman, often the scams target lonely women as well.
The scammer will start up a conversation with their victim, then shortly after start making declarations of “undying love” for their victim, then the scammer will have an “emergency” and needs money right away, the scammer will often ask to be paid with a cryptocurrency called TETHER, USDC for short, which is much easier to move across international borders instead of actual US dollars, the scammer will continue to ask for money until their victim no longer has money. Then the person with “Undying Love” for their victim disappears into thin air, looking for another victim.
Many lonely elderly people, both men and women, fall for this scam and by the time they realize they have been scammed, they have lost thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars that is almost impossible to recover.
The Chinese Triad Mafia gangsters are laughing all the way to the bank, it is easy money for them, often easier than their normal business lines of dealing meth, loan sharking, and shaking down legitimate businesses with “protection” rackets.
People, especially elderly lonely people, need to be careful about these kinds of scams that are now very common on the internet.
